  1. Hi Penny

I m interested in joining your choir. I am not a trained singer but am part of a work-based choir. Is there a ‘taster’ session option?

    Many thanks
    Annie

    1. Dear Annie,
Thanks for this and it sounds good! The first session of the term is usually a good one to come and try things out. We’ll be at Central Hall (SO14 1NF) for our first summer term session on Monday 24th April, 8-10 pm. You are welcome to come and join us then! Penny

      1. Hi Penny,

I called you earlier about a Whitney Houston Documentary release. Would you be able to give me your email address so I can send you more information?

        Thank you

  4. I hope you have all had a restful break after Easter and well done for all your hard work in the run up to Easter. I thought both the Good Friday outdoor event and the Saturday evening concert went extremely well and I hope you enjoyed taking part as much as I did! I’ve put some piccies/vid on the choir facebook page.
Looking forward to seeing everyone again tonight!

    1. Hi! We’ve had a couple of weeks off after a busy Easter but we’ll be at Central Hall tonight Monday 11th April 8-10 pm. You are welcome to come along.

The dates on the the calendar but sorry for only just spotting this – for some reason, the website is not sending on the e-mails to me!

  5. Hi,

I’m interested in joining, but i would like to come along and try it out. When could i come along and try out? I’m free most Monday evenings thankfully!
About me: i’ve done quite a bit of singing in choirs, mostly classical and world music. I haven’t sung in a gospel choir for over 10 years, but enjoyed it when i did.
    Thanks,

    Charlie

  6. Hi Penny, my mum always loved the gospel choir, she used to sit outside the church listening to the choir singing when she was younger and last year when she became unemployed she spoke of joining the gospel choir. Unfortunately she passed away 3 weeks ago, I was thinking as a nice send off for her to have a gospel singer at her funeral to sing a/some of a hymn. If you know of anyone that I can get in contact with I would much appreciate it. Thank you

  7. Well done, everyone who sang yesterday at Monica’s Thanksgiving Service – you did a brilliant job (especially in the impromptu concert before the start!) and I know Bobby was very pleased at how it all went.

  8. Hello
Imagine if you could no longer hear beautiful music …..
For anyone who is confronting deafness, hearing loss or tinnitus, music is only one of the things in life they can lose.
If you are thinking of doing any charity work this year, would you kindly consider supporting Action on Hearing Loss (formerly RNID). Despite 1 person in 6 struggling with some form of hearing loss, we are, unfairly, often overlooked. We hope you will help us reach more people in our community who may be feeling isolated by their deafness. Although we are a national charity (for example our research and our campaigning) we also work locally and we are very proud of our work in Salisbury and the surrounding area where we provide hearing aid support and befriending – often a lifeline to people with hearing loss.
I am sure you already know of lots of ways to fundraise, or you could simply have a retiring collection at one of your concerts.
We are grateful for anything you can do. Please get in touch with me if you can help.
    Very best wishes
    Susie McCallum

    1. Hi Susie, I am sure we would be happy to help with a charity concert or something like that. Do you work in Southampton? If so, it would be good to arrange to meet up to discuss further. Let me know.

    2. Hi Susie, did you want to talk about a concert date? Now would be a good time to chat. You can contact me on 023 8079 0278/07989 381948. Cheers! Penny

  9. Well done for a great first rehearsal back tonight!

Monday 1st Feb – regular rehearsal at Central Hall
Monday 8th Feb – football match at 8 pm – do we want to try and find an alternative venue? Watch this space for more details.

  10. I would be interested in joining and would like to come along on Monday 25th January but I don’t think I can come the following Monday, 1st February. Would this be OK?

    1. Hi Robert. Yes, this would be fine. Just come along on Monday 1st Feb – we look forward to meeting you!

We are based in Central Hall, St Mary Street, but come in through the car park at the rear. As you come in the gates, it is the first door round the corner on the right.

NB. Parking can be a bit of a mare – no parking at Central Hall but if you can find a single yellow line you can park for free after 6.00 pm. Parking bays cost £2 from 6-8 pm, free after 8 pm.

      Hope this helps! Penny

    1. Yes, just turn up any Monday evening at 8pm, you would be very welcome. First rehearsal of the new year is 25th January. We are based in Central Hall, St Mary Street, but come in through the car park at the rear. As you come in the gates, it is the first door round the corner on the right.

  11. Hi Penny,

Each year in February we celebrate National libraries day. This year it is Saturday 6 February. We will be showcasing what the library has to offer on the day and the days leading up to it e.g. Tracing your family history, using digital resources, volunteering at the library and behind the scenes tours are just some of the services we offer. As part of the entertainment for the day it would be wonderful to have a community choir in the library. Is this something The Central Hall Community Gospel Choir might be interested in?

I will be on leave from today and return 4 January and will pick up your email then.

    Happy Christmas

    Best wishes
    Allison

    1. Hi Allison,
Sorry we didn’t get back to you on this – it arrived just when the choir finished over Christmas.
We are back tomorrow and if you are still interested in us coming to sing at the library, I can ask them then.
If you want to talk further, you can contact me on: e:thehastings@ntlworld.com, t:023 8079 0278, m:07989 381948.
I look forward to hearing from you. Penny (Director – Central Hall Community Gospel Choir)

  12. Yes, you can just turn up on a Monday evening during school term time. You will be most welcome.
Probably best to telephone the number above just to be sure we are meeting.

    1. Quick shout just to let everyone know we’re back to rehearsals starting tomorrow night Monday 25/01/16 – everyone welcome to what will hopefully be a fairly typical session, so: fun warm-up, something familiar, something new, good drinks and cakes, plus friendly banter!

  13. Hi,
I am interested in joining your choir, I am a full time student at Southampton Solent University. I was wondering if you could give me some more information such as age range, type of music etc. I have sung in my church choir for 10 years and can read music. Thanks
    Tilly

  14. Thank you so much for your performance at St James this morning! Brilliant vocals, arrangements and the most amazing piano playing on Amazing Grace! You really lifted our spirits (even the grumpy ones lol ) Thank you again!

      1. I would really like to join but am concerned about the area. Sorry, that doesn’t,t sound right. I,ll be on my own and am just worried, if I can,t park right outside, I might have to walk some way alone.
        Eileen

        1. Hi Eileen, That’s alright – we quite understand. I usually find I can park on a single yellow line on Cook Street just opposite the entrance to the car park and it’s literally over the road so a very short distance – hopefully you can do the same. You could also join us in the summer term when it’s a bit lighter! We would be happy to walk you back to your car at the end of the rehearsal. Hope this helps! Penny
