Over the past few years, the choir has put on an annual singing workshop, inviting someone in from outside to teach new songs, perhaps new singing techniques and generally have a fun day singing. Last year we invited Gitika Partington to lead event and had such fun we invited her back again this year for our event yesterday (Saturday).
Gitika teaches songs without handing out any music, but does it in such a way that we rapidly get to sound really good. She brings more than a few laughs to the teaching process as well, and the end result of yesterday was that we were able to perform (albeit VERY strongly led by Gitika!) what we had learned to invited friends and family at the end of the day. We sang a couple of African songs, a version of the Beatles “All You Need is Love”, Gitika’s arrangement of the Bill Withers song “Ain’t No Sunshine” and others, all in (at least) four part harmony.
Around fifty people attended the workshop coming from our choir as well as some from other local choirs and some who don’t normally sing in a choir. We have already had several very positive comments on the day, and everyone seems to have gone away tired but having had a great time. Thank you Gitika!
Thanks must also go to to Covenant Life Ministries International church for generously lending us their building for the day – the main hall there was a great place to sing.
