HAPPY NEW YEAR! After a busy Christmas term, we’re back tonight and it’s a Taster Session for new people too so do invite folk along (regulars, please wear your name badges!): 8-10 pm Central Hall SO14 1NF and there will be hot drinks and cake too! The Small Hall door is the first on the right as you enter the car park.
Parking: You can park in the Central Hall car park if there’s space but please don’t block anyone in. There’s also street parking just outside. The free option is to park on single yellow lines in Cook Street opposite. If you park in a bay it’s £2 after 8 pm. Hope to see you!
Conversation this evening with the lovely Bazil Meade of the London Community Gospel Choir and he has confirmed that the Central Hall Community Gospel Choir will do a few numbers to open Saturday’s concert at Central Hall – exciting! LCGC is inspirational and I’m sure they will have everyone singing along. Do come and be part of the fun if you are free!
Some of us came along to sing for Breast Cancer Haven and support their fundraising efforts in Southampton Precinct last weekend. The sun shone, the punters enjoyed the singing and even joined in, and gave generously! Over £385 was raised which Breast Cancer Haven were really grateful for. Well done, those who sang and those who gave!
Music in the City 2018 celebrated its 10th year this year. Every year it’s got bigger and better and every year we’ve been there to support it. Fantastic to see all the vaults and unusual places opened up for live music and everyone having a good time! Here we are singing at King John’s Palace on Blue Anchor Lane – a beautiful venue and well worth a visit if you have not seen it.
Monday 17th September – CHANGE OF VENUE! A football match is scheduled at St. Mary’s tomorrow night so we have decided to re-locate our rehearsal because the roads around Central Hall will be mayhem and parking may be difficult.
So tomorrow night our rehearsal will be 8-10 pm at All Saints’ Hall, Winchester Road, SO16 7DL. There is a small car park to the rear (entrance from Pointout Road) and onroad parking. Here’s a link:
Back to Central Hall as usual next week.
Tonight we’re back at Central Hall and, just a reminder, it’s a Bring a Friend night. Do wear your name badge if you have one too! We’ll be singing something new, getting ready for Music in the City on 29th September, and catching up with new and old friends over coffee. Come along if you can! If there are spaces in the car park, then go for it (but please don’t block anyone in!). Otherwise you can park for free on the single yellow line on Cook Street just opposite. Looking forward to it!
That’s it for this term – no more rehearsals until Monday September 10th which is also a Bring a Friend night.
Southampton Art Gallery – we love you! Saturday’s set was great fun and the acoustics and the piano are a dream. Well done, singers, for a great set! Here’s some piccies from last time (forgot to take any on Saturday). The statues are also good value!
Really enjoyed tonight’s BBQ and it was also lovely to meet so many members of your families.
See you in September and have a great summer!
Last Monday was a beautiful evening when we met outside Southampton Art Gallery and sang our way through town, stopping at various locations on the way for photos. We met some very pleased (and surprised!) punters and we love the resulting photos. Well done and thank you, Paul and Phil, for all your hard work and skill behind the lens! It was such an enjoyable evening we think might do it all again next year.
NB. Don’t forget that this coming Saturday 14th July we will be singing INSIDE the Art Gallery from 2-3 pm!
That was a jolly concert! Here we all are at the “Sing a New Song” Easter Concert getting the audience involved too. To quote Psalm 100, you really “made a joyful noise” with your singing – great work, everyone! Well done, too, for absolutely nailing Dave Adcock’s fave song “Hear the bells ringing” too! The cream on the cake was raising £450 for Christian Aid. Stephen Dominy from Christian Aid was really bowled over by the whole concert. Special thanks to Peter and Sarah Dockree for letting us use St. Alban’s Church and being so supportive. Happy Easter, everyone!
Just a reminder that we’re back tonight and it’s an open session so do wear your badge if you have one, and do bring along anyone who wants to have a go. We have various events coming up soon, so we will be looking at our general repertoire. Bring your folder too if you have one! 8-10 pm Central Hall. Look forward to seeing you there!
